Auto Body Group Keeps Up With Trends

The WPRABA is committed to keeping its members informed so as to help the consumer

In the early 1950s a few auto body repair shop owners founded the Westchester Auto Body Association. They realized that not only were they better able to affect legislation and insurance company problems as a group, but an association also gave them the opportunity to exchange ideas and common problems.

Now known as the Werstchester-Putnam-Rockland Auto Body Association, Inc. the group represents shops not only in Westchester, Putnam and Rockland but also Dutchess County and the Bronx. The group also is actively involved with the New York State Auto Collision Technicians Association, which comprises 10 Auto Body Associations from around the state.

Our purpose and aim is to keep membership informed and educated as to legislation affecting the industry, as well as any information regarding new technology. The industry has changed drastically over the last decade. New materials for repairs and refinishing are almost impossible to keep pace with. To help the situation, a General Meeting is held on a monthly schedule, offering programs and workshops and speakers knowledgeable on current topics that are perinent to operating an up-to -date facility.

Some of the information imparted deals with regulations concerning insurance companies and the rights of the insured, the consumer. Many times, people who are seeking repairs are not fully aware of what their rights are. It is the obligation of the contact person at the shop to inform the customers of their rights. Legislation is constantly changing where auto body repairs are concerned, and the WPRABA is committed to keeping its members informed so as to help the consumer.

A monthly magazine published for members and provided to other associations keeps all informed local, state and national news, and regulations relating to the industry. These include Board of Health, Department of Environmental Conservation and Environmental Protection Agency changes and updates. Our membership is truly concerned about clean air and the environment.

We are striving to improve the image of the Auto Body Industry as to the Professionals we truly are. After all, the safety and security of knowing that an automobile has been restored to pre-accident condition rests in our hands.

Many of our Members have been and are involved in different aspects of civic and voluntary ventures. Many serve or have served on town boards, board of education, zoning and planning boards, as well as service organizations, Rotary, Kiwanis and Business Groups.

WPRABA has an identifying logo sign that is displayed at all Member Shops. Consumers can rest assured that the shop displaying the logo will offer them Courteous and Professional Service.
